A guest in nature

Paths have a purpose

A shortcut can create a much longer problem for nature.

Read the local rules

Harz National Park, for example, requires visitors to stay on its trails. Such rules protect habitats and apply to a particular place. Read information boards and current notices from the responsible authority before setting out.

Places have different rules

Bavarian Forest National Park has particular trail requirements for sensitive areas. Do not assume one park’s rules apply to every landscape. Respect closures and protected areas; an old recorded track is no permission to use a closed path.
